Timber Framed Buildings
Hemcrete: Carbon negative insulation for timber frame buildings
Hemcrete can be used with any timber, concrete or steel framed building, Hemcrete replaces all insulation within the walls and can even be used as insulation within roofs and floors.
Installing Hemcrete requires the same skills and knowledge that are used for shuttering concrete; coupled with our experience of energy efficient buildings Denstone construction is ideally suited for this specialist work.
HemcreteŽ is an established walling material for carbon negative highly thermally efficient walls which has the following advantages over traditional building materials:
- HemcreteŽ absorbs CO2 in its manufacture and so has a negative embodied CO2. For a typical wall section HemcreteŽ will have an eCO2 of 130kg CO2/m2 less than traditional brick and block.
- HemcreteŽ is made from renewable UK grown hemp based materials.
- HemcreteŽ is highly insulating resulting in thin walls with a very low U value ideal for meeting the higher levels of the Code for Sustainable Homes.
- Unlike other insulators HemcreteŽ also has thermal inertia similar to thermal mass and so houses built of HemcreteŽ change temperature very slowly reducing heating loads significantly below lighter weight buildings with the same U value.
- HemcreteŽ is vapour permeable and when used with Baumit lime based renders and plasters creates a breathable walling system for healthy living.
